Julkaisuhistorian kannalta rotan upotus sensurointi taitaa olla BBFC:n vaatimus. Vanha R2 DVD, jossa oli suomisubit, oli muistaakseni sensuroitu ja se oli yhteneväinen UK-julkaisun kanssa. Muistelenko ihan omiani vai oliko jossain Abyss dokkarissa selostusta tuosta eksoottisesta nestehengitysjärjestelmästä, joka oli oikeasti olemassa ja toimiva. Keuhkot täytetään erittäin happirikkaalla nesteellä. Sen käyttäminen on todella rajua, koska siinä aloituksessa joutuu aina kokemaan hukkumisen ilman kuolemaa . Elokuvassa rotta upotettiin oikeasti kyseiseen nesteeseen ja se hengitti sitä selviytyen stuntista. Yhdysvaltain eläinviranomaisilla, jotka valvovat elokuvien kuvauksissa, ei ollut mitään tätä stunttia vastaan. 60 fps julkaisu? Tuohan vaatisi kuvataajuuden monistamisen ja väliruutujen renderöinnin/luonnin 120 fps:iin, josta voitaisiin pudottaa sitten 60 fps, mitä 4K UHD formaatti tukee. Uusi Avatar oli vain 48 fps ja vain tietyiltä osin. Olisi taas vuosikymmenen aivopieru, jos tälläkin kertaa True Lies ja The Abyss jäisivät julkaisematta. Toivottavasti tulevat.
OK, muistelen sitten väärin. Voisin vaikka vannoa, että mulla oli aikoinaan suomisubillinen DVD-julkaisu, jossa kyseinen rottakohtaus oli rajattu niin, että sitä ei näe kuvassa. Pituutta ei ole sensuroitu - muistaakseni. Nyt kun tämän kirjoitin, niin olen aivan varma siitä. Asia harmitti tuolloin, koska "upgreidasin" leikkaamattoman US DVD:n tähän suomitekstitettyyn aussi- tai UK-julkaisuun. the Australian video retailer Sanity (Sanity.com.au) is indicating that Cutthroat Island (1995), Cross of Iron (1977), and Battlestar Galactica (1978) are coming to 4K Ultra HD in July. The Ranown Westerns: Five Films Directed by Budd Boetticher 4K Blu-ray Description: The five briskly entertaining, vividly performed westerns made by director Budd Boetticher and strapping star Randolph Scott in the second half of the 1950s transcend their B-movie origins to become rich, unexpectedly profound explorations of loyalty, greed, honor, and revenge. En usko ennen kuin virallisen varmistuksen asiasta omin silmin luen. Villi veikkaukseni on, että kyseessä on identtiset "insertit" sisältävät versiot ja lopputulos sen mukainen. Yhden kautta aikojen parhaimman elokuvan eri versioiden alkuperäisten kameranegatiivien löytyminen olisi sen kokoluokan uutinen, että otsikot moisesta olisi vuotaneet julkisuuteen jo hyvissä ajoin ennakkoon. Tästäkin huolimatta toivon tietenkin, että status olisi paras mahdollinen. Jeesus, jotta osaa kansitaide olla taas niin järkyttävää sontaa, että "mieli tekee potkia pikkulapsia".

THE RESTORATION This restoration was scanned in 4K by Silver Salt Restoration UK, from the original 35mm negative. A second generation 35mm intermediate positive produced in 1973 was used to replace a small section with unrepairable damage in the original negative. The additional footage is sourced from 35mm prints, which are the only known sources for this material. Colour grading and restoration were completed by Silver Salt Restoration UK who dedicated over 500 hours to fix physical damage to the 35mm negative, manually clean and remove dirt, sparkle and scratches. The colour grade used was previously approved by Robin Hardy and replicated here. Jos tuo oli tarkentava tiedonanto ja siinä ei mainita mitään aikaisemmin tutuksi tulleesta DC:n videopohjaisesta materiaalista, niin sitten pitänee ehkä uskoa.
